Probably.  Look at the distribution – it’s in India & Pakistan, too.

 

While 35delG  deafness is probably an EEF thing.

    Something to do with nomadism, maybe? Or pastoralism?

    Curious how it is so common in Ireland.

    If it’s got a pan-Northern Europe to India distribution, could be CHG/Iran_N, alternatively.
    Yamnaya have about 40% CHG, balance per newest paper by Jeong is 15% Globular Amphora/Middle Neolithic EEF*, 45% EHG.

    Northern South Asian (North India-Pakistan) probably approximately 70% Iran_N/CHG between their ancestry streams (remainder 20% AASI, rest should be mostly EHG and Globular Amphora related).

    *incidentally, this finding of MN EEF in the Yamnaya means that the models of Yamnaya ancestry that gave about 40-50% in English-Irish and the balance to MN EEF can also be thought of as 35-43% EHG+CHG and 65-57% Middle Neolithic EEF.

    Then if you really want to break it down, Yamnaya have EHG:CHG in about 50:50 and Middle Neolithic EEF have Anatolian:WHG at about 75:25, so that would break down to English as approximately about 18:18:16:48 of EHG:CHG:WHG:Anatolian.

    If you then want to break that down into ANE and WHG, as EHG is about 75% ANE, so 13:18:21:48 of ANE:CHG:WHG:Anatolian.

    Also means Sintashta/Andronovo who contributed to South Asia are modeled as about 25% MN EEF and 75% Yamnaya could actually be seen as having a “true” MN EEF ancestry of about 36%, about a third.

    As per wiki “Delta f508 is present is one of 30 Caucasians, presence on both copies causes cystic fibrosis.” A single copy provided (presumably) some disease resistance otherwise natural selection would have weeded out the highly deleterious effect it causes when on both genes carry this mutation. Think of it as the white mans cycle cell anemia.

    I wonder if it rose to higher frequency in recent times when higher population densities made so many diseases far more deadly than way back yonder in hunter gatherer days.

      The 1 to 17 reproductive success is unknown in historical times. Not even Ghengis Khan clan out bred common folk at that proportion, and they had the advantage of social privileges and invincible war technology. I cannot imagine such social revolution, even in hardest Muslim dictatorships, reproductive equality was more or less maintained. Other scenarios should be considered, like a horrible outbreak of the homo virus, predicted to exist by Greg. Or another epidemic inhibiting male fertility, some STD.

      A last comment: We thought we had a good idea of the past, but now we discover that we know nothing.

        I say it jumped from one very gay sheep to a horny pervert and before you know it all the ladies were neglected.

        If only history was so colorful. Alas, the truth is much more boring. The first farmers virtually replaced hunter gatherers, men vastly more than women. That’s it, there ain’t no more.

            Check your dates, the time you are talking about is pre neolithic while the time the paper above is talking about, 5000 to 7000 years ago is post neolithic.

    Yes, that was common practice even in historical times. The democratic, liberal Athenians demanded from the island of Melos a tribute of 390 kg silver. The Melians refused, so the Athenian navy invaded and killed all the men and marketed (dumped) the women in the mainland. Athens sent 500 Ionian colonists to replace the Dorian Melians that were no more.
